Rahul Gandhi
Rahul Gandhi was born on 19th June, 1970 in Delhi. His father was late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and mother is Congress President Sonia Gandhi. He is now the Vice President of Indian National Congress and a member of Congress Working Committee. He has been elected in Loksabha from Amethi, Uttar Pradesh. His sister Priyanka Vadra is also an active politician. 
Rahul Gandhi’s great grandfather Jawaharlal Nehru was the Prime Minister of India from 15 August 1947 – 27 May 1964. His grandmother (Indira Gandhi) was the PM of India for 2 times. She was assassinated in 1984. His father was in the chair of Prime Minister from 31 October 1984 – 2 December 1989. He was also assassinated by the LTTE in 1991. Rahul grew up mainly in Delhi. He was shifted to many schools in his youth due to security reason.

Education
Rahul Gandhi has degrees in international relations and philosophy from the Universities of Rollins and Cambridge. Rahul Gandhi started his school education in St. Columbia’s School, Delhi. Then he was admitted in Doon School in Dehradun. He studied there from 1981 to 1983. Then he took admission in St. Stephen’s College in Delhi. After completing first year examinations, he was moved to Harvard University. After his father’s death, he was shifted to Rollins College due to security concerns. From this college, he completed his B.A. In 1995, he took admission in Trinity College, Cambridge to obtain M. Phil degree. After completing his graduation, Rahul started working at the Monitor Group. It was a management consulting firm of London. In 2002 he started working as one of the directors of a Mumbai based technology outsourcing firm named Backops Services Private Ltd.

Political Life
Rahul entered in politics in 2004. He won from his father’s old seat ‘Amethi’. In 2007, he was elected as the General Secretary of Indian National Congress. He was re-elected from ‘Amethi’ in 2009. In 2013, Rahul became the Vice President of Congress.  

Land Acquisition Protest
Uttar Pradesh police arrested Rahul Gandhi on 11th May, 2011 at Bhatta Parsaul village. He turned out in support of the agitating farmers who were demanding more compensation for land. Their land was acquired for a highway project.

2012 Assembly Elections
During the Uttar Pradesh assembly election, 2012 Rahul Gandhi campaigned for almost 2 months. He participated in at least 200 rallies. But Congress got the fourth position. In the Amethi parliamentary constituency, Congress won 2 seats out of 15 seats. Rahul Gandhi publicly accepted the responsibility for the result. Rahul was not given the whole responsibility in the Gujarat Assembly elections held later in that year.

National Security and Controversy
Rahul Gandhi always speaks of national security. Once he said that RSS and SIMI were great dangers to the whole country and the whole nation. Comparing RSS with SIMI, Rahul created a big controversy.

Lokpal and Corruption
Rahul Gandhi thinks that Lokpal should be made a constitutional body. It is believed by Rahul that Lokpal alone cannot root out corruption.

Personal life
In 2004, Rahul Gandhi told the press about his personal life. He told that he had a girlfriend. Her name was Veronique Cartelli. She was a Spanish architect and she lived in Venezuela.

Prime Ministerial Candidature
Rahul Gandhi is described as a youth icon. He is the leader of the Indian Youth Congress. He is also the leader of National Students Union of India. He is the Prime Ministerial candidate of UPA in the forthcoming Loksabha election.
