Stephen Leacock
Stephen Butler Leacock was a Canadian author. He was born on 30th December, 1869 at Swanmore, Hants in England. At the age of 6 (in the year 1875), Stephen’s parents migrated to Canada and became the citizens there.
Stephen was a very good student and proved brilliant in his academic attainments. At the age of 22, he graduated from the Toronto University. He obtained his PhD degree in Political Economy from the University of Chicago in 1903.
Leacock was a reputed academician. He was elected the Professor of Political Science at McGill University and worked in that capacity from 1903 to 1936. He became also the fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 1910. He was a visiting professor of different Universities in the British Commonwealth.
Leacock was also an author of repute. He had a number of serious works on Political Science and Economics. He was widely known and popular as a humorist. His humorous writings reveal his quality as a prose author. He passed away on 28th March, 1944 in Toronto, Canada.
