Christina Georgina Rossetti was the sister of the celebrated painter—poet Dante Gabriel Rossetti. She was born on 5th December, 1830 in London. She was educated at home under the care of her mother. She was very tender by nature and of a religious temperament.
Christina had a poetic temper. She showed early promises as a poetess. She had 2 small collections of poems. Her grandfather published them at her ages of 12 and 13 respectively.
Christina Rossetti was a sweet and soft girl with a spiritual conviction. She was deeply attached to the church. She even desired to enter religious sisterhood. Of course, her family attachment prevailed prevailed ultimately and kept her at home. But her spiritual outlook persisted in her personal relationship. She preferred to remain a life-long virgin much to the shock of her beloved poet-mate James Collinson.

Christina had a frail health. She hardly kept her health fit. She suffered from cancer in her later years and became almost invalid. She died on December 29, 1894. She was then 64 only.
Christina Rossetti had an intrinsic talent for poetry. She was associated with the Pre-Raphaelite School, of poets. Her first major poetical collection was Goblin Market and Other Poems. It was published in 1862. That was followed by The Prince’s Progress in 1866. Then came, one after another, Sing Song : A Nursery Rhyme Book (1872), A Pageant and Other Poems (1881) and Time Files : A Reading Diary (1882).
