Amitabh
Bachchan is an Indian film actor. He is also a producer cum narrator. He is a
good play back singer also. He was born on October 11, 1942 at Allahabad in the
state of Uttar Pradesh. His parents were Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Teji
Bachchan. His father was a renowned Hindi poet.
In 1942,
India was struggling for independence. So, Amitabh was named ‘Inquilab’ by his
father. Later on his name was changed to Amitabh- which means ‘the light
which will never goes off’. Fans of Amitabh lovingly call him Big-B.
Amitabh is married to actress Jaya Bhaduri. He met with Jaya on the sets of a
movie Guddi. They have two children-Abhishek and Shweta. Abhishek is also a
renowned actor. His daughter-in-law is Miss Universe and renowned Bollywood
actress Aishwarya Rai.
Amitabh Bachchan was an employee in Birds & Co in Calcutta. He was a
freight broker in the company. He decided to quit his job and take up acting as
career. In 1969, he did voice narration for a Bengali film Bhuvan Shome. The
film was highly acclaimed by the critics. It won national award for the best
film and fetched Amitabh Bachchan a role in a K. Abbas film Saat
Hindustani. Amitabh won a national award for the best actor for his acting in
Saat Hindustani. His journey has not ended yet. He has worked around 180
movies.

Amitabh
has won 3 national awards and 14 film fare awards in his career. He has been
nominated 37 times in different categories. Other than Hindi he has worked in
Bhojpuri, Malayalam and English cinema. Government of India has awarded him
with Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan for his contribution to the Indian cinema.
His association with Hrishikesh Mukherjee was a turning point in his career.
Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s film Anand made him super star. He also won film fare
award. His films like Abhimaan, Chupke Chupke, Namak Haraam, Mili is still
popular.
In 1973, he worked in the film Zanjeer. This film created his angry young man
image. Then he continued to play this type of characters in movies like
Deewaar, Kala Patthar, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, Kaalia, Trishul, Sharaabi, Roti
Kapda Aur Makaan, Shakti etc. His also worked in many romantic films like
Kabhi Kabhi.

In
Amitabh’s illustrious career two films stand out. One of the films is Sholay.
In this film his character is of a silent lover and a friend. His role in this film
was much appreciated. In terms of business collections the movie broke all time
records. In the year 1982, Amitabh was injured during the shooting of Coolie.
When he was fighting for his life in a hospital in Mumbai, millions of his fans
prayed for him and he recovered soon.
In 1984, Amitabh joined in politics. He contested from Allahabad Loksabha
Constituency in the 8thLoksabha Election against H.N. Bahuguna, former Chief
Minister of Uttar Pradesh. He won by record number of votes. He joined politics
only to help his good friend Rajiv Gandhi. Soon he was disillusioned by the
dirt politics and resigned.
Amitabh Bachchan started his own business and made a production and event
management company – ABCL (Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited). The business
ran in to huge losses and Bachchan was declared bankrupt. Then Amitabh started
hosting in a TV show Kaun Banega Crorepati. He earned huge money from this show
and all his debts were wiped out. He also hosted another popular TV show Big
Boss. These two shows became hit because of Big-B’s warm, causal, decent way of
hosting.

After a
few years interruption Amitabh returned in acting in 2000. He acted in the
films like Mohabbatein, Bunty Aur Bably, Black, Sarkar, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie
Gham etc.
His son Abhishek has been running his production house -AB CORP. The house made
hit movies like Cheeni Kum and Paa.

Big-B is
known to be a family man. But his steamy affair with Bollywood star Rekha still
raises many eyebrows, the repercussions of which can be felt in the present day
also.
Amitabh’s
height is 6 fit 2 inches. His weight is 80 kgs. His eye colour is black. His
hair colour is black also.
