Wilfred Owen Biography

Wilfred Owen
War remains ever a challenge to human civilization. And there are a very few people to think of it with sanity. The name of Wilfred Owen, however, is remarkable among those few thinkers. He was a soldier. But he was a poet, too. And he was something more than a soldier or poet. He was a champion of the cause of peace and humanity.
Owen was born on 18th March, 1893. His birth place is Plas Wilmot, Oswestry.  He was a student of the Birkenhead Institute, Liverpool.
Owen wrote his first verse when he was barely 10. He showed clearly his poetic fascination before he was 15. He matriculated from the London University in 1910.

In 1914 he became a soldier. He was sent to the battlefield of France. He experienced personally the superhuman inhumanity of war. He was shot dead by the German machine-gunners on November 4, 1918, 7 days before peace.
