Jim Corbett Biography

Jim Corbett is a celebrated name in hunting. He was born on 25th July, 1875 in a family of reputed hunters at Nainital, India. He was also brought up in India. He was actually an Irish man who had immense enthusiasm for wildlife in India and spent much of his life and time n the same.
Jim Corbett had his schooling in India (at Nainital). He joined army after the end of his school life and became a Major in the Indian Armed Force. But what actually interested him was not soldiering but hunting. He remained a name today as a hunter and author on Indian wildlife and hunting.
Corbett was much honoured by the Indian Government during his lifetime and after his death. The Hailey National Park in Kumaon was renamed as Corbett National Park. Even the Government issued a postage stamp in 1976 to commemorate the 100 years of his birth.

Corbett was the author of a number of books including Man-eaters of Kumaon, The Temple Tiger, More Man-eaters of Kumaon, The Man-eating Leopard of Rudraprayag and so on.

Corbett died on 19th April, 1955 at Nyeri in Kenya.
