Manikuntala Sen
Manikuntala Sen was a stalwart in the undivided Communist Party of India. She was born in Barisal, now in Bangladesh in the year 1910. Their family was very conservative. She was brought up in an orthodox Hindu environment. She left her home and came over to Kolkata (then Calcutta). There she joined the Communist movement. She was a meritorious student. She passed M.A. in Philosophy from the University of Calcutta in 1938.
 Manikuntala Sen married Jolly Kaul, a fellow member. She was a dedicated Communist. She was elected twice to the West Bengal Legislative Assembly in 1952 and 1957. After a few years, she left the Communist Party along with her husband

Smt. Sen was not a professional author. But she was a political thinker. She did not write much. She wrote in Bengali a number of thought-provoking articles. Her autobiography ‘Sediner Katha’ written in Bengali marked the quality of her writings. Its English version is ‘in Search for Freedom, an Unfinished Journey’.
Manikuntala Sen was died in Kolkata in 1987.
